PTSD happens after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like combat or military sexual assault (MST). PTSD is something that happens to you, not something wrong with you. Flashbacks, feeling on edge, and having trouble sleeping are normal with PTSD. Many Vets experience other problems at the same time, such as depression, extreme alcohol use, and eating disorders.

This means that researchers conduct studies using scientific methods, document their research in peer-reviewed publications (like medical journals), and other researchers conduct more studies to make sure they actually work. There are three evidence-based treatments for PTSD: Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye-Movement Desensitization (EMDR). None of them tickle - this will be hard work for 8-16 sessions.
